The most common cause of posterior cruciate ligament is trauma. This can happen if the patient falls down on bent knees, faces car accident called “dashboard knees” or overstretches the knees. This is a serious trauma of the knee and needs immediate medical attention

The patient suffering from posterior cruciate ligament has the following symptoms:-
- The traumatized knee may get inflamed and becomes tender.
- The knee joint becomes completely instable.
- There may be significant pain in the knee joint

The injured knee needs immediate treatment. Icing, splinting and elevating the joint above the heart level may immediately prevent the inflammation of the knee joint. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be given to reduce the pain of the joint. Physio therapy may be suggested to the patient to regain muscle strength and motion. For more severe cases knee arthroscopy or open surgical reconstruction of the knees may be suggested |
